QNTM Day Wrap — September 14, 2026
The QNTM model portfolio (45 holdings) declined -0.16% today, outperforming SPY's -0.47% drop by 31 bps. Conviction across the 1,422-name universe sat at a below-average 48.6, with only 3.1% of stocks flagged high-conviction — consistent with QNTM's RISK_OFF regime read.
What drove it: The gap versus SPY traces to sector positioning. Markets were hit by a rout in chipmakers as leaders of artificial-intelligence giants called for a development slowdown , after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said AI model progress should be slowed, with OpenAI's Sam Altman agreeing the industry needs to "pace the frontier" . Nvidia and Broadcom slumped, and a key semiconductor industry gauge sank 5.7% . With QNTM's model less concentrated in mega-cap chip names than SPY, it avoided the brunt of that selloff.
Market recap: The Nasdaq 100 fell 1.3% . Markets started the week on a defensive footing as oil jumped, with Brent gaining over 3% toward $106 after attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz prompted Saudi Arabia to temporarily shut its East-West pipeline . Friday's hotter CPI report pushed markets to price roughly an 85% probability of a 25-basis-point Fed hike on Wednesday .
What's next: The FOMC meets Tuesday-Wednesday, with the rate decision due Wednesday afternoon — the focal point for markets this week.
