QNTM Week Wrap — Week Ended Friday, Oct 2, 2026
The model portfolio (50 names) returned +1.69% this week vs +0.53% for SPY — a ~116 bp edge, even as the regime overlay stayed RISK_OFF and mean conviction across 1,418 scored names sat at just 47.8, with only 1.6% of names flagging high conviction.
Drivers: The week was a tug-of-war between rising oil/yields and a sudden risk-on reversal Friday. Much of the investable universe ended the week with losses, as a five-week-long global bond rout and crude oil near $100 a barrel hurt rate- and economy-sensitive segments . Tech was an especially bright spot, with the Nasdaq Composite climbing to a fresh high, powered by a record in Nvidia and a revival in semiconductors following Micron's blowout results . The Dow lost 1.3% this week, while the S&P 500 was weaker by 0.3% — the model's quality/momentum tilt into resilient mega-cap tech helped it buck that breadth problem.
Macro: September payrolls rose just 29,000, well below the 90,000 expected, while unemployment edged up to 4.2%, though the rise was driven by stronger labor-force participation (QNTM's "jobs_weak" flag). Oil eased from near-$100 highs as Mideast tensions cooled (QNTM's "war_deescalation" flag), with Brent crude losing 2.4% to $99.88 .
Next week (Oct 5-9): A light calendar before Q3 earnings season starts — watch for the first reports to set the tone.
